Queen Lili‘uokalani Children's
Center Framework
Preface
The Queen’s Deed of Trust, as amended, lays
the foundation for our work to care for and support orphan and
destitute children, with preference for Hawaiian children in
Hawaii. We will fulfill this mission by working with our
partners and the `Ohana to support the development of healthy
and resilient children.
Our approach to honoring the legacy of the Queen is
based on the philosophy of community building which is
consonant with Hawaiian cultural and spiritual values.
The following principles of community building guide all
of our work:
- We believe in building and sustaining trusting
relationships
- We believe in the capacity of people
- We seek to build upon the strengths and assets in
people
- We believe in self determination
- We believe in partnerships and collaboration as a
way to maximize resources
- We value the process as much as the outcome
In order to maximize our impact we have decided to
focus our efforts on strengthening families so that they
are better able to support the development of healthy,
resilient children.
